Washington Democrat Gov. Jay Inslee said Monday he will not seek an unprecedented fourth term.
“Serving the people as governor of Washington state has been my greatest honor,” Inslee said. “I’m ready to pass the torch.”
Washington, unlike most states, does not impose term limits on its governors.
Inslee was the second governor in the state to serve three terms, and he made an unsuccessful bid in 2020 to win the Democratic presidential nomination.
He also said in announcing his plans that under his administration the state has passed “the nation’s best climate policies” and has shown “diversity is a strength worth fighting for.”
