Woman Sues Dentist After 4 Root Canals, 8 Dental Crowns, 20 Fillings In Single Visit

Kathleen Wilson, a Minnesota woman, has filed a lawsuit against Dr. Kevin Molldrem of Molldrem Family Dentistry in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, for alleged negligent treatment in July 2020. Wilson claims that the treatment led to significant injuries and disfigurement. The lawsuit was filed in Hennepin County District Court and accuses Dr. Molldrem of providing an unsafe dosage of anesthesia and falsifying medical records.

Despite requests for comment, Dr. Molldrem and his attorney, Nathaniel Weimer, have not responded to Wilson’s allegations. Wilson’s legal team has retained Dr. Avrum Goldstein, a dentist in Florida, to provide an expert opinion on the case. Dr. Goldstein’s November 14 report identified various duty-of-care breaches by Dr. Molldrem.

The report revealed that Wilson had decay on almost every tooth in her mouth, a condition that is uncommon. While Dr. Molldrem made the right diagnosis, his attempt to restore all of Wilson’s teeth in one visit did not address her susceptibility to disease or the possibility of losing teeth. Dr. Goldstein deemed Dr. Molldrem’s approach to be ineffective and argued that Wilson required a slow, thoughtful, careful, and measured response to her disease.

According to Dr. Goldstein, it is “inconceivable” to address 28 teeth in 5 1/2 hours. Dr. Molldrem’s treatment did nothing to address Wilson’s underlying condition but, instead, led to injuries and disfigurement. His actions were a breach of duty of care that is expected of dentists in their practice.

The lawsuit filed by Wilson seeks compensation for the injuries caused by Dr. Molldrem’s treatment. The case highlights the importance of adhering to the right treatment procedure in dental practice. Dentists must ensure that they provide the necessary standard of care that meets their patients’ dental needs. In cases where there is a breach of duty of care, patients have the right to pursue legal action.

The allegations against Dr. Molldrem emphasize the need for vigilance on the part of patients. It is vital to identify unscrupulous dentists and take legal action to protect oneself from their harmful practices. Patients must understand that they have rights, and dentists are held to high standards of practice and care. With proper care and attention, dental treatment can improve a patient’s quality of life.
