Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has attributed the increase in prostitution in Corona, Queens, to a growing number of female Venezuelan migrants who are facing difficulties finding alternative employment.
On Tuesday, he highlighted the presence of “illegal” activity in the area and cited it as an illustration of how the city is being impacted by the national migrant crisis.
The nature of the involvement of these Venezuelan migrants in sex work remains unclear, as it is uncertain whether they are engaged in such activities willingly or if they are victims of sex trafficking.
