During the New York premiere of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” actor and musician Donald Glover provided eager fans with an exciting update on the long-awaited “Community” movie. More than a year since its announcement, Glover confirmed the film’s script has reached completion.
The 40-year-old star, renowned for his portrayal of Troy Barnes in the hit series “Community,” engaged with Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith to discuss the film’s progress. “I was texting today and was told that the script was done,” Glover revealed to ET, indicating active developments in the project’s journey to the big screen.
While Glover has yet to review the screenplay himself, his commitment to the film remains steadfast. Scheduling considerations are the remaining detail as he assured, “It’s really just a schedule thing [but] I’m in. I’m all in.”
The movie initiative, greenlit by Peacock in September 2022, hits nearly a decade following the launch of a fan-driven campaign desiring the show’s conclusion with a feature film. The forthcoming movie promises to reconvene notable “Community” cast members, including Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong. The original series creator, Dan Harmon, alongside McHale and Andrew Guest, are set to executive produce. Furthermore, Peacock plans to acquire the complete “Community” series library, expanding its streaming content roster.
The “Community” movie stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the series and its passionate fanbase. With the script finalized, anticipation builds for the next phase of this beloved comedy’s life, transitioning from the small screen to cinematic storytelling.
“Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line from Community‘s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” said Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, in a statement. “We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.”
