On Monday, Coast Guard crews conducted the transfer of 275 individuals to Bahamian authorities after intercepting a migrant vessel in Bahamian waters.
Highlighting the dangers associated with attempting illegal migration in overloaded and unsafe vessels, Lt. Cmdr. Matt Spado, the Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas, emphasized the risks faced by individuals and their loved ones.
Since October 1, 2022, Coast Guard crews have encountered a total of 5,089 Haitian migrants. Upon boarding a Coast Guard cutter, all migrants receive essential provisions including food, water, shelter, and basic medical care. Following these measures, they are either promptly repatriated to their country of origin or transferred to their departure country.
