Hours after the United Auto Workers’ union strike began Friday, Ford announced it told 600 workers who assemble cars at a plant in Michigan not to report to work that day, because the walkout at a nearby plant has left them without adequate parts.
In addition, General Motors said on Friday it plans to idle 2,000 workers at its Fairfax, Kansas, assembly plant as early as Sunday or Monday, citing a “ripple effect” of the strike at its Wentzville, Missouri assembly plant.
“Their plan won’t work,” the UAW has said in response.
