The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Iowa revealed on Tuesday that they are filing a lawsuit against the state over a parental rights bill enacted earlier this year.
In May, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a directive prohibiting teachers from discussing gender identity and sexual orientation matters with students up to grade six. The directive also banned the removal of any books portraying sex acts from school libraries, with an exception for religious texts.
Governor Reynolds remarked in a statement, “This legislative session, we secured transformational education reform that puts parents in the driver’s seat.”
