Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has dispatched a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, seeking information regarding instances of terrorists illegally crossing the U.S. border and formally requesting a briefing on the matter.
Dated Thursday, the letter references statistical data indicating that during fiscal year 2023, border encounters with 169 individuals who were either identified as known or suspected terrorists reached an unprecedented level, surpassing the cumulative figures of the past six years.
“In fact, the Southwest border is so prone to infiltration by individuals with ties to extremist groups, CBP recently issued a memo warning of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah members potentially crossing the border,” the letter reads.
