Montana Republican Senator Steve Daines put forward a bill on Thursday aimed at imposing sanctions on Chinese companies and individuals linked to the Chinese Spy balloon, following reports alleging China’s use of American technology for espionage purposes.
Obtained by The Daily Caller, the legislation outlines measures to ensure collaboration between the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Commerce in identifying institutions associated with the Chinese military or intelligence services, designating them as restricted trade partners.
“The recent discovery that China used U.S. technology to spy on the United States is embarrassing but not surprising as it is yet another foreign policy failure by the Biden administration. To ensure this never happens again, the world needs to know there are consequences for these actions and that America will lead with strength, not weakness, in the face of national security threats,” Daines told the Caller before introducing the bill.
