Newly released records from House Republicans have shed light on Joe Biden’s communication with a business associate of his son Hunter Biden while he was vice president. According to the records, the communication took place over email and occurred 54 times. The emails were exchanged with Eric Schwerin, who served as Joe Biden’s financial advisor between 2009 and 2017.
While the dates of the emails are described, the content is not revealed. However, what is known is that Joe Biden emailed Eric Schwerin five times before taking a trip to Ukraine on June 7, 2014, and a total of 27 emails were sent between the two from the end of June to November 21, 2014, when Joe Biden traveled to Ukraine again.
The majority of the emails were reportedly exchanged leading up to and following Hunter Biden’s appointment to the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma. In a February 2014 email, Hunter Biden referred to Eric Schwerin as a “close confidant and counsel to his father.”
It has been reported that Eric Schwerin played a significant role in the financial affairs of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle. Buhle stated that Schwerin “managed almost every aspect of our financial life.” Schwerin has served as the president of Rosemont Seneca Advisors, a company co-founded by Hunter Biden.
According to a Fox News report from August, Schwerin visited the White House and the vice presidential residence at least 36 times while Joe Biden was vice president. A White House spokesperson declined to comment on the matter to NBC but cited statements by House Democrats about Schwerin’s role as Joe Biden’s financial advisor.
The newly released records from House Republicans have revived questions about the relationship between Joe Biden and Burisma, as well as the financial dealings of his son Hunter Biden.
