A New Mexico sheriff said Monday he could not to enforce an emergency order by the governor to temporarily suspend the right to carry firearms in public in and around the city of Albuquerque because the order was “unconstitutional.”
“There’s no way we can enforce that order,” Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen said. “This ban does nothing to curb gun violence.”
The announcement on the ban Friday by Democratic Gov. Michelle brought immediate backlash – bipartisan and from inside and outside the state.
Lujan Grisham has said she expected legal challenges and that state police would handle enforcement.
