California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom said this weekend the state budget deficit is nearly $10 billion more than he projected in January.
The revised deficit is now nearly $32 billion, compared to the $22.5 billion gap Newsom projected in his initial budget proposal in January.
Newsom made the acknowledgement in unveiling a revised $306.5 billion budget proposal on Friday.
“This was not an easy budget, but I hope you see we will try to do our best to hold the line and take care of the most vulnerable and most needy, but still maintain prudence,” Newsom said.
