Self-proclaimed faith healer João Teixeira de Faria, also known as “João de Deus” or “John of God,” has received a 99-year prison sentence in Brazil for numerous sexual crimes, according to the country’s Agencia Brasil.
Faria gained global attention for his claimed healing powers and amassed a following that included renowned media personality Oprah Winfrey.
The popular talk show host had interviewed Faria a decade ago and had described him as “inspiring,” as reported by The Associated Press.
