The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced the shortlists for 10 Oscar categories for the upcoming 96th Oscars ceremony. Greta Gerwig’s meta-comedy film, “Barbie,” was mentioned the most times among the shortlisted films, with five mentions.
Other films that showed strength with four mentions apiece across four different categories were “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Society of the Snow.”
“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” are beginning to emerge as leading contenders in the awards race, pulling away from the pack.
They are followed closely by “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Poor Things.” Meanwhile, “American Fiction,” “The Holdovers,” and “Maestro” continue to generate buzz and make noise in the awards races.
The upcoming award ceremonies and events in January and February will be crucial in determining the nominees and winners at the 96th Oscars ceremony on March 10, 2024.
