Rapino Sticks With Her Silent National Anthem Protest In Final Game For USA Women’s Soccer

Megan Rapinoe in her final game with the U.S. women’s national soccer team maintained her protest of the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the start of the game by not sing and keeping her hands behind her back.
The game was played Sunday night against South Africa, a 2-0 U.S. victory.
Rapinoe was reportedly the first American pro athlete to follow Colin Kaepernick in 2016 in kneeling during the national anthem. Amid backlash, she instead protest in her own way and suggested she won’t sing again unless gains were made in in LGBTQ rights, criminal justice reform and closing the inequality gap.
