The Department of Justice (DOJ) has declared its intention to file a lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott due to the state’s use of a floating buoy border barrier to prevent illegal immigration.
The DOJ’s stance was outlined in a letter sent to Governor Abbott, expressing concerns about the violation of federal law, humanitarian issues, potential risks to public safety and the environment, and the possible interference with federal government duties.
Governor Abbott, a Republican, responded passionately to the DOJ’s announcement, defending the use of the barrier. He had previously announced the implementation of the barrier, composed of orange buoys intended to discourage migrants from crossing the Rio Grande.
