In the World Para Athletics 400-meter race held in Paris on Thursday, a transgender runner secured a third-place finish.
Valentina Petrillo, a biological male who has been participating in women’s events, earned a ninth medal with a bronze finish in the race.
Petrillo completed the event with a time of 58.24 seconds, trailing behind the first-place finisher Omara Durand of Cuba, who clocked in at 52.82 seconds, and the second-place finisher Alejandra Perez Lopez of Venezuela, who finished in 57.88 seconds.
