NY Deploys Dozens Of Shark-Monitoring Drones Following Recent Attacks

New York Governor Kathy Hochul revealed that the state will be deploying 60 drones to monitor the beaches of Long Island, New York City, and Westchester in response to the increasing number of shark sightings and attacks this year.

During her announcement at Jones Beach in Nassau County on Friday, coinciding with National Shark Awareness Day, Governor Hochul acknowledged the significant growth of shark presence along the New York shoreline over the past decade.

“Until the release of Jaws in 1975, people didn’t pay much attention to sharks,” the governor stated. “But now, we have seen a substantial increase, going from one shark encounter in 2012 to eight a decade later.”
